Graduate Program LACDR (PhD)

An important feature of LACDR is the PhD Training Program. Primary focus during this four year appointment lies on performing research in one of the Center's Divisions. As an integral part of their training, PhD students also attend and present their research at national and international conferences and symposia.

The PhD students also participate in weekly seminars, research group meetings and journal clubs in which they report and discuss their research, and develop skills in oral dissemination and interpretation of scientific literature. The PhD students are required to participate in several courses both to extend their general knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences and to gain in-depth insight in specific projects. Two events play a crucial role in this respect:

* The Introductory Course on Drug Research, organized by LACDR, in which all-first year PhD students participate.

* The ULLA Summer School, organized every two years, for all PhD students during the first three years of their training. International interactions are considered essential for a student to develop into a mature and creative scientist.

The PhD program is completed with the public defense of a PhD thesis.
